Also to share a couple of additional points that I feel could help you and fall in very well with one of the videos regarding your link page and getting links to your site are:

1) If you are searching for recipocial links, a good site created by the very knowledgeable SEO Expert "Brad Callen" is LinkMetro.com. Brad is also known for SeoElite as well as KeywordElite among many others. LinkMetro is free to use, just register and start requesting links with other related sites.

2) When creating your link page(s) you should make it look like the rest of your site, don't use one of those automatic ones that just list your links (related or not). Sometimes when I'm searching for other sites to link to, I find a great site and then see an automatic link page and it completely turns me off.

Here's an example for one of my sites it the Internet Marketing/Business Category:
My Site: www.mgsecrets.com (hasn't been updated in awhile)
Site Requesting Link: www.bw.net
Site's Link Page: www.bw.net/links
Now this site, actually its a Business Wholesale Forum, which has a Google Page Rank (PR) of 6, which is great.

But why not make the link page the same as colors or template as the rest of the site or at least put a link to your home page. Unless maybe your ashamed of your site, or trying to link to everything under the sun and don't want to get caught for it.... and by the way the Search Engines are extremely smart, if they haven't found you yet, they will. Why would you want to waste your time creating that many links to have your site flushed down the toilet...

The only links you should be looking for or adding to your site are revelent/related links to your topic. If your site is about medicine, you can still go broad and link with health related sites and such, but don't link with Gambling or Art Collecting, etc.
